Anatomy of Dryer

Mechanical dryer operation, air flow, and linter cycles on both and electric dryers are basically the same; however, it is important that the technician become familiar with the  components of each type of  the unit.
Dryer Operation
The following is a description of the operation of a clothes dryer.
General both gas and electric dryers are designed to dry clothes, sheets, blankets, towels, and small throw rugs. Users should follow the manufacturer's drying instructions found on each garment and the suggestions outlined in the owner's manual provided with each dryer.
Caution: Combustible materials should not he dried in these dryers. Items such as oil- or gas-soaked rags will ignite if dried in these dryers.
Safety All dryers meet safety requirements and are equipped with two (2) safety features built into their operating sequence. These safety features are: the door switch, which is normally open and which must be closed before the dryer can be started; and the high-temperature limiter thermostat designed to shut off the dryer  should the internal temperatures exceed a predetermined safety, a, well as users, should heed all warnings related to the operation of these dryers.
Mechanical operation The parts of the dryer involved in the mechanical operation are the rotating drum or basket which is supported in the cabinet by means of a bearing in the rear of the cabinet and Teflon glides on the front panel, a motor, a belt, and a belt tightened or idler, spring assembly. The motor drives the belt that is mounted to the outside of the basket, causing it to rotate clockwise. The idler spring assembly provides proper tension on the belt to ensure a drum rotation speed of 50 to 52 revolutions per minute.
Air flow system order to obtain the best drying action, air passing over the heated coils, or burner flame, is drawn through the basket and forced out the exhaust. Air drawn through the basket provides it more even (Irving action because it tends to travel around the garments, pick-in,, up moisture and carrying it out through the exhaust rather than being blocked by the garments and not drains.
Heated air is the method by which the dryer operates to dry clothing. The air travels through the dryer in the following manner. When the dryer is started, the motor operates a blower wheel mounted on one end of the motor shaft. This blower wheel is located in the blower housing. The air system is closed in order to get the best air flow pattern and to ensure that a consistent volume of air is circulating at all times.
